Ophelia in the play had very mixed emotions. She first seemed like this very innocent
girl, then as the play proceeded on you saw her dark side. She was a very humble character to Hamlet
in the start of the play but as it proceeded on she showed how she really felt towards Hamlet and
everyone else in the Kingdom. The loss of her father is what really sent her over the edge, she starts
going mad. She starts breaking things yelling at the king and queen and crying her eyes out. The loss
of her father is the main reason of her actions. Ophelia was close to her father and loved him dearly.
When he passed Ophelia was heart broken and her love for Hamlet, since he is going to get banished
must've made her give up on her life.
News hit that Hamlet was acting crazy and was going to get sent to England and
Ophelia knew her love for Hamlet would never end. Hamlet treated Ophelia like and prince should
treat a princess, even though she was told that she shouldn't trust the things Hamlet said to her.
Basically Ophelia's life was full of confusion and hate between the ones closest to her. Its no wonder
she took her life.
The two main loves in her life are gone and now she decides to take her life, but why?
I think there's more to it. Was she pressured by the influences that Hamlet really didn't love her at all?
She seemed like she was unsure about it and it may have influenced her to take her life which is why
she did. As for her father's death, it was mostly an accident of how he died and her true love had
killed him thinking it was Claduius. She may not know that it wasn't on purpose but her love has just
killed her father its a tough situation for Ophelia to be in. This is why I feel she had taken her life
cause her father's death had come from another one she loved most as well. She didn't know who to
go to anymore since the ones she loved most are gone. She took her life since she had no other love
to cherish.

Hamlet's Dilemma
Hamlets should wait to see how things continue around the castle before killing Claudius. I can understand why Hamlet would want to do it, he killed his father so obviously, but he must think about the sake of others in this situation. How is it going to affect is mother, the dearest wife to Claudius, and the Castle? People around the castle have been saying that Hamlet has been acting weird and that they shall send him away, but if Hamlet does kill Claudius and Hamlet does get sent away, who will be next in line for the throne? Will the Kingdom be safe? Also take in consideration that Hamlets father has recently passed. How is the Kingdom going to react to another death of a king? War might break out and maybe Norway would see that as an opportunity to take advantage of Denmark. If Hamlet doesnt kill Claudius maybe he will see if it's right for the kingdom to have him as a leader and it will give him time to see if his mother really like him and if he treats her well. If none of those things apply, I think Hmalet will kill him and maybe he might get sent away and they will need a new leader for the throne. I can see a war happening between the kingdom and then Norway is going to jump in and it will cause bigger problems for Denmark. It all depends on if Hamlet can have patience to wait it out and see if things work or if he kills him and takes the throne as the New king of Denmark.
To Be or Not To Be
In the Sir Lawrence version there was very little emotion on Hamlets face. You could hear all of the thoughts going on in his head as he stood on the edge of the cliff with the knife in his hand. The waves below were crashing into the rocks and the background was very foggy and Hamlet seemed to have a low voice the whole time. In the Gibson version Hamlet is in the Catacombs where it's quiet and there's and Echo of footsteps and wind. He walks around the Catacombs talking out loud about death, he even prays and looks up at maybe the gods. His voice gets louder almost as if he is frustrated. In the Catacombs there were very little light so it was dark. In the Branagh version the room was full of light and mirrors. He was walking slow up to the mirror and had the knife at hand as if he was looking at an enemy in the mirror not himself. Hamlet had a very low voice as well when approaching the mirror. In the last version he looks very lost doesn't know where to go or what to do. He talks very low and the movie The Crow comes on which is ironic about death.
Ghost Scene
The Zeffirelli version was more emotional in terms of how Mel Gibson expressed his language and emotion. The way the moonlight shined in his area showing darkness and the grief that the scene brought. Gibson's tone in his voice seemed as if he was very frightened. His facial expression also showed how he reacted to seeing the ghost. As the ghost tells Hamlet about his uncle his emotion stays the same, which shows that he was already in a stunned surprised mode. Hamlet tries to reach out to the ghost but it is too late and he goes mad. In the Branagh version the ghostly spirit is more of what a ghost seems like. In Zeffirelli version the ghost is calm and talks to HAmlet in this low voice but in Branagh's version the ghost is angered and seems more frightening. The emotions on Hamlets face show you that he was more frightened then shocked by the ghost. The third version by Almereyda was a bit more modern day and had very low voices in this one with no back round music or anything. It was an emotional scene as Hamlet's face shows that he was in shock.
